U87Ai vs sE Electronics X1R (a nastro)

Un test da curiosoni! Non è per i voice over!

I microfoni della serie X1 sono parecchi e differenti tra loro.

Questo è un X1-R che significa Ribbon, ovvero a nastro.

C'è l'X1-D per le Drums le batterie, l'X1-T come Tube, valvolare che monta una ECC83 valvola sviluppata nel 1964 dalla RCA e conosciuta come 12AX7 che troverai su migliaia di preamplificatori e amplificatori amati dagli audiofili. Solo per chiarire che gli X1 non sono tutti uguali.

Questa è solo una prova con il suono di un microfono a nastro, di tipo dinamico quindi senza Phantom, con una tecnologia vintage e celebre come la Woodoo di sE Electronics che ne ha messo un po' qui. Non so cosa vuol dire ma me l'hanno detto! :)

Questo microfono è sicuramente adatto ad altro che non al Voice Over, ma visto che è qui per altri scopi (chitarre elettriche, pianoforti ecc) facciamolo sentire.

sE ha a catalogo un microfono a nastro e uno a valvola realizzato con Rupert Neve!! May be one day...

Si può usare anche con la voce, ma per produzioni dedicate cui un suono così starebbe bene, anche un disco per dire. Jazz, un radio dramma... boh!

Il suono è piacevole e antico. Qui trovi i test dei due fratelli X1 classico XLR e della versione X1-USB.

Registrato con un filtro passa alto attivo che alleggerisce i bassi altrimenti sarebbe nero come la pece.

Il microfono ha pattern fisso a 8.

Non va oltre i 16Khz.

Richiede un certo guadagno e si porta un po' di rumore di fondo.

Il prezzo varia dai 170 ai 180 euro.

Yes, you can buy it. I currently don't know how it sound close to the U87, I' still building one and in near future will modify a Rode NT2 (95) and may be also a AKG with Microphone-part project. This last is pretty easy to do. Anyhow, at now what seems near to that mic is the Rode NTK. Still airy but not so much. I'm very curious to modify it also, with tube and capsule but, to be honest, I made a audiobook that required a very close position by actor to the mic, to listen any expression, very cozy and personal and it give the right velluto and my client is very happy with that. Another one may be the TLM102, but is not so easy to use near, it suffer lot of the rumble on the body. But, got a warm sound for that cost.

Recorded on Rode NTK original, with Sovtek 6922 Tube inside. Because the U87 it ir warm too but not happy if play too close. Hard to not pop, instead the NTK seems less sufferent and still warm so talk without use full voice but just breath it was more easy.

estimado arreglista express gracias por el comentario...pero la consulta era que microfono es el que se asemeja mas en cuanto a sonido al neumann u87ai...lastimosamente el u 87 ai escapa a presupuesto...es demasiado caro!!!...motivo por el cual hay 2 links que puedes cliquear y observar cual de las 2 alternativas es la que se acerca mas al u87ai....

Lo intento uno, el S 87, que estoy construyendo. Cuando termino voy a dejar que se escucha, pero sé que es muy similar all'U87. L'Oktavamod non lo conosco. Però es muy famosa.

Paolo gracias por responder..seria muy interesante escuchar la prueba del S-7....y si se puede escuchar el Mxl hulk de Mike Joly...para poder decidir..animo!! el armar o construir el S-87 es dificil..y requiere de mucha paciencia

Necesito tener tiempo para que me concentre en la tranquilidad. De lo contrario cometa errores. más de tres horas, pero no sirvo, me tienen que relacionar los pasos muchas veces para estar seguro, todavía no tengo un buen técnico electrónico. Un desafío.

I'm sure that Neumann was in cardioid, X1R - figure-of-eight (the only directivity it has).

rusyafate The new NT1 (black) May be sound very good for voice. It is quite and flat. The sE x1 S for the price it sounds flat too and very good with low self noise. Sounds with voice very present and nice. IMHO.

Grande voce! Complimenti davvero! L’Se è più caldo. Utile per registrare delle ottime chitarre. Il Neumann U87 invece è molto più neutro.

Interessante test , tuttavia sarebbe interessante in confronto ad armi pari . Il microfono nastro costa dieci volte meno dell' U 87, ovvio che qualche pecca sia fisiologica in fatto di rumore almeno .

I know it's been over 5 years but thank you for the video. It was very helpful. Both mics are in different categories. I would use a nice Neve style preamp on both. I would primarily use the X1 for backup vocals. The Neumann is well a Neumann.

Three things spontaneously occur to me: 1st: I would like to have an U87. 2nd: I would like to learn Italian. 3rd: Got really hungry now. Last but not least: Great comparison! PS: Congratulations on the EC 2020 :-)

The ribbon definitely doesn’t come close to the U87 but it has its own sound, its own character

It's not fault of X1R. It's only captured the sound of this room. Fuel the Lamborgini with diesel and see how it goes ... on a tow truck. Unfortunately, this video has not subject of comparison - X1R (with figure-of-eight directivity) compared against U87Ai but in cardioid mode. If it was done fairly - then Neumann would sound a LOT worse (of course, it wouldn't sound worse actually, but just capture the sound of the room in the same way).
